About Mr Palmer
Mr Simon Palmer is an Orthopaedic and Trauma Consultant with expertise in surgery of the lower limb with a specialist interest in minimally invasive surgery.
Mr Palmer is also a Senior Clinical Lecturer at Brighton and Sussex Medical School (University of Sussex), is an Educational Supervisor to trainee surgeons, is a surgical trainer and teaches surgical podiatrists techniques in foot surgery and bunion correction. He also has an interest in musculoskeletal research in his department and at the medical school in Brighton.
Prior to working as a Sussex Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon, Mr Palmer worked as a Consultant in Orthopaedic Surgery in Oxford in the UK and a Visiting Fellow in Foot and Ankle Surgery in Sydney, Australia. At this time he also developed his interests in sports medicine and sporting injury. He is on the Faculty of Sports Medicine of the Royal College of Surgeons. His initial surgical training included Imperial College of Science, Technology and Medicine, St Mary’s Hospital and The Hammersmith Hospital in London. He was made a fellow of The Royal College of Surgeons of England in 1994 before accepting a research fellowship in orthopaedics and trauma at Bath University, where he attained an MSc in Sports Injuries. He completed a six year specialist registrar training in orthopaedics and trauma at Oxford, when he passed the intercollegiate speciality examination in Trauma and Orthopaedics. He was then privileged to be admitted to the Specialist Register for Trauma and Orthopaedics at the GMC (General Medical Council) on 27th May 2002.
He developed his minimal access surgical techniques for foot and ankle surgery with European surgeons with interests in the same ideas and regularly attends meetings with his European colleagues on the continent. He offers arthroscopic and minimally invasive surgical techniques for the treatment many conditions of the foot and ankle.
When he’s not treating patients, Mr Palmer is a keen triathlete and regular ironman triathlon competitor. He enjoys snowboarding and kitesurfing, watching rugby and also has a busy family life in West Sussex!
